New England Quilt Museum & Boott Cotton Mills Museum

Tuesday - October 19, 2021

This is a tour that we have been working on and are so excited to offer - whether you are a quilter, a history buff, an engineer that wants to learn more about the industrious past of the area, or if you just love delicious Greek food!!

Spend a day in Lowell, Massachusetts - the “Acropolis of America” - hear the stories of the people who came from faraway lands looking to make a better life for themselves, learn about the revolutionary textile industry, and view the expansive quilt collection at the New England Quilt Museum.

The Boott Cotton Mills Museum at Lowell National Historical Park - Explore the stories of the workers, engineers, inventors, and investors who made Lowell the first successful planned industrial city in the United States. Learn more about the city’s role as a cutting-edge developer of technology and hub of social and economic change in the American Industrial Revolution.  Visit the Weave Room - an expansive room packed with over eighty historic power looms from the 1920s that is still weaving cotton cloth! Experience just a fraction of what Lowell’s mill girls and immigrant laborers would have seen, heard, smelled and felt when they worked in the mills.  And learn about the Greek community in the “Acropolis of America” exhibit, which documents the role the city of Lowell played in the history of Greek immigration as the home of the third-largest Greek population in America.

New England Quilt Museum - Founded in 1987, the New England Quilt Museum is housed in an 1845 landmark building in the heart of a community with a rich history in the textile industry. Experience world-class exhibitions that explore the artistry, history, and significance of quilt-making; past and present. View a selection of the Museum's renowned permanent collection of nearly 500 quilts, the innovative works of prominent quilt artists from around the world, and the historical themes that highlight the most important and beautifully preserved antique quilts in America.
