DISCOVER THE REMARKABLE TRUE STORY OF A SMALL TOWN THAT WELCOMED THE WORLD
On 9/11, the world stopped. On 9/12, their stories moved us all.
Called a “Celebration of the Best of Humankind” and “an uplifting piece of art for the time” – the Tony-nominated breathtaking musical, COME FROM AWAY, is based on the true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned in to an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander’s air strip on September 11, 2001.
Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships. Written by Tony® nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Broadway’s COME FROM AWAY is a Best Musical winner all across North America and critics cannot stop singing its praise. Newsweek cheers, “It takes you to a place you never want to leave!”, and the New York Times says it’s “The catharsis we need in this American moment.”
